Terms of use
Last updated: October 16, 2026
ScienceMadeReadable (the site, its search API, MCP server and ask address) is run by Maxime Rivest, in Canada. Contact: mrive052@gmail.com.
Using it
- The search, the API and the MCP server are free to use, without a key, within the limits shown on the API page.
- Please don't try to get around the limits (for example with many addresses or many accounts), attack or overload the service, or resell access to it as your own service. We may block keys, accounts or addresses that do.
- Study records come from OpenAlex (CC0). Papers belong to their authors and publishers. Plain-language rewrites are made by AI models and can contain mistakes: check the original before relying on one.
- The service is provided as it is. It runs on our own hardware and may be slow or down at times. We are not liable for losses from using it or from it being unavailable, as far as the law allows.
Accounts and keys
- One account per person. Keep your keys private; you're responsible for what is done with them. Delete a key at once if it leaks.
- You can delete your account at any time on your account page.
The paid plan
- A monthly subscription, through Stripe, that gives your keys the paid limits shown on your account page. Prices are in US dollars; tax is added where it applies.
- It renews each month until you cancel. Cancel at any time from your account page (Manage or cancel your plan): you keep the paid limits until the end of the month you paid for, and you aren't charged again.
- Refunds: within 14 days of your first payment, ask and you get it back in full. After that, payments are not refunded, except when the service was unavailable for a large part of a month you paid for: then ask, and we refund that month.
- "Fair use" means the monthly number of requests shown on your account page; past it, your keys get the free account's limits until the month ends.
- If we ever raise the price, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before; you can cancel before it applies. If we stop the paid plan, we refund the unused part of the month.
Changes
We may update these terms; the date above says when. Changes that matter for paid plans are announced as said above.
